Cosmetology: Semipermanent Color Services

Tools and Materials required for Semipermanent Color Services:

  • Comb
  • Timer
  • Towels
  • Shampoo
  • Cotton
  • Color chart
  • Conditioner
  • Protective cream
  • Plastic clips
  • Plastic cap
  • Waterproof cape
  • Protective gloves
  • Client record card
  • Selected haircolor
  • Applicator brush or bottle


Preparation:
  1. Perform a patch test.
  2. Client consultation.
  3. Ask client to remove and store jewelry.
  4. Drape client.
  5. Perform strand test.
  6. Record results.

Procedure:
  1. Shampoo clients hair and towel dry.
  2. Put on gloves.
  3. Apply protective cream around hairline and ears.
  4. Part hair into four sections; ear to ear and from front center of forehead to center nape.
  5. Take ½ inch partings and apply color to new growth or scalp area in all four sections.
  6. Work the color through the rest of the hair shaft to the ends until full saturation is achieved.
  7. Set timer to process.  Follow manufacturer’s instructions.  May need a plastic cap.
  8. Rinse, shampoo, condition and style.

Clean up:
  1. Discard disposable items.
  2. Close containers, wipe and store them.
  3. Sanitize cape, tools and workstation.
  4. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  5. Rinse plastic bottles, bowls, and brushes, disinfect according to state chemical disposal regulations.
  6. Complete your client’s record card and file for future use.
